These guidelines are targeted at local authority inspectors in England and should be read together with The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 (Sl No.486), but are more beneficial to pet care professionals operating in each specific niche - in this case the home boarding and home day care of dogs. 

Guidance documents are available for each activity that is licensable under these regulations: Pet selling, hiring out horses, dog breeding, boarding for dogs, dog day care, boarding for cats, home boarding for dogs, and keeping or training animals for exhibition. 

The Procedural Guidance is available on the general issues that apply to all of the activities and includes guidance on how to assess the star rating of establishments.
